Anyone who has lived in Peterborough long enough will remember the fleet of blue/white Horrells milk floats that used to deliver our milk. When this advertisement was placed with the Evening Telegraph back in 1982, Horrells were still going strong.

Odeon Cinema, Broadway – 1937

The Odeon cinema pictured around the time it opened, which was September 1937. The Odeon closed it’s doors in 1991 but the building still remains.

Bridge Street – Prince of Wales Visit – Early 1920s

Here’s a great view of Bridge Street a few years before it was redeveloped into a much wider street. This photo would have been taken from Long Causeway looking towards Bridge Street. At the time, preparations were being made for a Royal visit.

Here we have two photographs of Bretton Centre from 1981. They both show the main bus stop at the centre. The area has had quite a revamp since these were taken but this road does still exist as does the bus stop.

Sadly, Woolworth no longer exists on the high street but here is a newspaper advertisement from 1982 when Woolies were very popular, especially for the pick and mix sweets!

Rear of Peter Brotherhood Factory – 1978

This shot of the railway running behind the Peter Brotherhood factory was taken in 1978. The factory no longer exists on this site, during the 1990s the area was redeveloped into a shopping/retail site. During 2012 the area was yet again redeveloped, remaining as a retail site.

It’s a shame this photograph wasn’t in colour as the blue and yellow livery of the Inter City 125 looked great back in the day. The Great Northern Hotel can be seen on the right hand side in the background of this photo and the old Royal Mail sorting office can be seen on the left hand side.

The power station can be seen in the background of this photograph. It was demolished during the 1980s and the land was redeveloped to make way for Rivergate.
