Farcet, Peterborough - Miscellaneous Photographs

This photograph of Main Street, Farcet was taken sometime during the 1920s/1930s. Thanks to one of our visitors, the exact location has been identified.
The shop belonged to a Mrs. Harrison at one time, and possibly a Mrs.
Gilbert before that. It was directly across the road from the original
84 Main Street, which was demolished in the early 1970s. After the site
had stood derelict for some years, a bungalow appeared as no. 84. The
barn visible in the photo has also gone - I think that was relatively
recent, the last twenty/thirty years or so. The row of 1896 cottages still
stands as you can see, but the small group of cottages between the outhouse
of the shop and the 1896 cottages have gone to be replaced by two garages
and the semi-detached houses. I'm beginning to wonder if the cream-painted
house is in fact the old shop, now made into one dwelling.

The same location photographed in June 2007.
